German Shepherd Dog Breeder
A german shepherd dog breeder will usually be supportive of the local rescue kennels.
Max von Stephanitz and Artur Meyer organized the first club in 1899 when the first dog was bought. The Verein club started to keep a studbook; it held annual dog shows that were called “Sieger” where the best dog and the best bitch were chosen. The president of the club controlled the breeding by choosing only the best representatives of the breed. Though herding was the main purpose of the breed, von Stephanitz recognized the importance of usefulness of the breed and proposed the Government to use the dog for police work.

German Shepherd Dog Breeder -
rescue, kennels
Rapid popularity of these strong and intelligent animals can be detrimental for the breed as a whole. Many kennels and puppy mills rely on impulsive buyers and produce puppies of this breed with the only purpose of making money. They don’t aim at improvement of the breed, but produce mediocre pups with genetic disorders and unstable temperament. Irresponsible buyers are often attracted by the positive image of the breed portrayed on TV. They obtain these pets as a matter of fashion and know nothing about their upkeep.
