When evaluating a puppy for sale, meet the parent dogs and check kennel conditions.
A good breeder of a purebred dog will interrogate potential buyers carefully to make sure they are ready for responsible ownership. Novice and unknowledgeable buyers will likely be refused selling a dog. A reputable breeder will continue to be available for advice and consultation for the rest of the dog’s life. If the owner cannot keep the dog any longer, the breeder will be glad to take it back. Devoted breeder don’t allow their animals to end up in shelters or rescues.

There was a supposition that the hound was crossed with the wolf as it looks like that animal, though it actually has nothing to do with it. Thus, breeders say that many Australian black hounds are descendants to a hound called 'Satan' which was imported from Germany approximately 20 years ago. Nowadays, there are about 200-300 black hounds of this breed in Australia. Unlike white representatives of the breed, there is nothing to exempt black hound from being shown next to the regular type. White hounds are not permitted to be fully registered and are considered to have a 'fault.' When evaluating a puppy for sale, meet the parent dogs and check kennel conditions.
