The American Kennel Club that had earlier registered the breed under the first name gave it this new name. After the war, the name of the breed was reinstated. In 1950 and 60s, the breed became popular in America. Then a great number of dogs was imported to the United States. The popularity of the breed also grew thanks to the movies the dog starred in.

It’s vital to provide a pup with socialization and obedience training since early age. This breed is slow to mature and takes up to 3 years to develop its abilities. While growing, the puppies are very active and need regular exercise and enough mental stimulation. If the owner cannot spend much time with the pup, another pet or two can provide enough exercise. The new owner must be prepared to provide kind but firm discipline. If mistreated, these animals can quickly become dominating and difficult to control.
